LiveHTTPHeaders: Online Competitive Intelligence And Ad Networks

There are many ad networks out there that delivery a ton of inventory. Often times it is the networks that have the best reach which get the most attention. Personally, I could care less what percentage of the population that networks hit, I am interested in inventory that is reasonably priced which converts.

Here are the January Ad Network Rankings as published by ClickZ last week from data compiled by comScore. As you can see Platform-A holds the top spot followed by Advertising.com, Yahoo Network, Google Ad Network and Specific Media rounding out the top five.

So how are you as an advertiser, publisher or even a user to decipher which networks are serving you which links and what jump links point to which networks? I use a program called LiveHTTPHeaders which I used frequently back in my days as the Director of Toronto Ad Sales at AzoogleAds. The program is 100% free and can be used with Firefox on both Mac and PC versions. I often times used the program to find out if my offers were being brokered out to other networks and more importantly to see if publishers were running my offer direct or through a competing network.

So through LiveHTTPHeaders I spent some time clicking on banner advertisements to see what jump links networks where running most of the ads that I pay attention to and here are the results:

http://atdmt.com is Atlas owned by Microsoft.
http://ad.doubleclick.net is Doubleclick owned by Google pending governmental approval.
http://xads.com is Brandxads Not a top 50, but they will be.
http://c.casalemedia.com/ is Casalemedia.com
http://adserving.cpxinteractive.com is CPX interactive
http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com is Google Content
http://media.fastclick.net is ValueClick
http://servedby.advertising.com Advertising.com Owned by AOLTime Warner
http://optimizedby.rmxads.com/ is RightMedia
http://a.tribalfusion.com/ is TribalFusion.com

Download the program and play around with it, you’ll discover a bunch of useful information. I will do another post shortly outlighning Affiliate Network jump links.
