Sanberg Joins Facebook, NebuAd and Phorm Expand and Turn Launches Turn Smart Market

Today it was announced that Sheryl Sanberg is joining Facbebook as the new COO. Sandberg was a six-year veteran with Google as their VP of global online sales and operations. Sanberg will defiantly have her hands full with Facebook as they are churning out money faster than it’s coming in. More importantly, the advertising inventory performs poorly for the rates Facebook commands. With the way the economy is headed, the branding dollars that were flowing into Facebook are only going to slow. As for the inventory that is sold through Microsoft, the quality is so poor it has very little value. Sanberg will head up sales, business development, public policy and communication.

There was an article that also appeared in today’s ClickZ newsletter that I subscribe to. The article, ISP Ad Partners NebuAd and Phorm Eye Overseas Expansions focus’s on how NebuAd is eyeing the UK marketplace and how Phorm may be eying the US marketplace. There is also some generic information about privacy concerns and ISP partnerships that two organizations are exploring. Nothing groundbreaking here, but relevant to recent posts I have blogged about.

Finally, Turn Inc. yesterday announced that they are no longer in beta with Turn Smart Market and have gone live with 500 premium advertisers and agencies and 3,000 websites. The service offers publishers and advertisers custom targeting capabilities using a choice of CPM, CPC, and CPA pricing. Jim Barnett, who previous to Turn was President of Overture Search, heads the company. Barnett joined Overture through its acquisition of AltaVista where he was President and CEO. Keep your eye on Turn; there is a lot of potential there!
