Barack Obama | Where to Watch The Presidential Inauguration Online?
President Elect Obama (or by the time you perhaps are reading this, President Obama) is truly an online connected president. I followed all of President Elect Obama’s online communications, as did I follow all of Senator McCain’s online communications. President elect Obama truly was more in tune with his constituents through email, Twitter and frequent online updates. Obama’s staff also didn’t hurt their chances by the amount of money they spent advertising online.
Now that today is Inauguration day, all eyes are on DC. As a one time resident of Washington, DC while attending American University, I am sorry that I am not attending the Inauguration. On the other hand, I will not miss the long lineups and security which undoubtedly will be slow at best. My plan is to watch the Inauguration in the comfort of my office chair this year; live through streaming video.
It will be interesting to see how those attending the Inauguration will communicate with all of us that are not. The New York Times has a great story on this called, Inauguration Crowd Will Test Cellphone Networks. We have all experienced times when we try to make a call and we get the busy signal from our cell phones. Many will remember New Years, just a few weeks ago trying to make call just after midnight and not having it go through. Here is a great quote from the NYT aricle by By Matt Richtel, “For those coming to pay homage to the BlackBerry-toting president, the inauguration has the potential to be a wireless Woodstock. If, that is, the networks can handle it.” What a perfect quote for our connected generation!
There will be no shortage of websites available for people to watch and experience Barack Obama’s Presidential Inauguration. Rex Hammock (Via PaidContent.org ) has a great blog post listing coverage that all readers will find useful. The TechCrunch Guide to The Inauguration is also a great resource. Between the two, even if some sites slow down due to the heavy traffic, you should be able to watch the Inauguration live. If not, there is always something called television!

What would this blog post be without a few mentions of online marketing? MediaWeek ran a nice piece on behavioral targeting and how the industry can police itself. After the Bush administration, I am not so sure the industry “policing itself” argument is going to fly. We will all have to see what Obama does.
