How To Track Your Competitors Online

Although I don’t spend as much time as I did in my previous position tracking my competitors, I still check in from time-to-time to see what’s going on. A few days ago I stumbled upon an interesting article, 14 Tools to Legally Spy On Your Competition. There are some pretty interesting tools on this site.

These tools are far from perfect, but they do give you indicators on the sites that you are checking up on. Be advised that the tools do not work particularly well for smaller sites, or sites that are overly new. There are of course some tools that are better than others. It really depends on what your specific needs are. I do suggest you spend some time tying them all out.

Perhaps that best example of tracking your competitors online can be found in an article by Renee Oricchio,  Six Ways to Track Your Competitors Online.

Who needs industrial espionage these days? Keeping tabs on your main competitors has never been so easy. You can use the Web in a variety of ways to make sure the competition isn’t leaving you in the dust.

Of course there is also a blog post that I wrote last March, Competitive Intelligence and Online Marketing that readers will find useful. In this, I focus more on CI that is more readily available through Facebook and LinkedIn.
