July comScore Media Metrix Numbers Public
The July 2009 comScore Media Metrix rankings became public on Thursday. There is nothing overly astonishing about these, but it does give online advertisers and marketers a strong sense of what sites and networks have the best reach. Although controversial (depending on who you talk to) I have always found these reports insightful.
For example, I pay particular attention to the top 35-50 sites in the comScore Ad Focus Ranking for the U.S. There is a lot more movement here, and I like to see what new networks pop-up or disappear. The comScore Top 10 Gaining Site Categories is also an interesting place to find consumer trends, for example the Green category growth:
Americans sought information about green initiatives surrounding automotive transportation with the launch of the federal ‘Cash for Clunkers’ program, with visitation to Green sites growing 15 percent in July to 17.5 million visitors. NaturalPath Media led the category with 2.1 million visitors, followed by Yahoo! Green with 1.9 million and ECOMII with 1 million.
Clearly the Cash for Clunkers program has been very popular, propelling activity within the Green category. By recognizing consumer trends, advertisers can (and should) target users if they are relevant within these categories.
